Creating personalized items in our apps can be extremely worthwhile but also time consuming. Therefore it is important that you occasionally backup the items that you entered so they can be restored later should something happen to the app or your device. Backing up is also a great way to transfer personalized items between your devices or have access to them on multiple devices.

Note that your Settings cannot be backed up. This applies only for custom items and user profile data and scores.

You now have a couple of choices of how to access the backups you’ve just created

Plugging in to a computer

  1. If you connect your device to a computer (usually via the charging cable into a USB slot) then most devices will allow the computer to now see and access the files on the device like any other folder on your computer.
    1. In some cases, you might need to allow USB debugging to give the computer access to your files
  2. Navigate to a newly created folder called ‘TactusTherapy’
  3. Inside that folder you should find a folder for each app. In each folder should be the backups you just created.
  4. Now you can simply copy the files to a location on your computer where you would like to keep the backups.

This website provides a nice summary of the information here: http://www.howtogeek.com/202644/how-to-manage-files-and-use-the-file-system-on-android/

On device

  1. Access a file manager app on your device
    1. Most devices have a file manager app provided by default. However, we recommend ES File Explorer which is comprehensive and free to install.
  2. Navigate to a newly created folder called ‘TactusTherapy’
  3. Inside that folder you should find a folder for each app. In each folder should be the backups you just created.
  4. From here you will have the ability to share you files. These could simply be e-mailed or shared via apps like DropBox, Google Drive or your preferred sharing method.

Restoring Data

The first thing to do is to get the backup files onto your device if they aren’t already. Again, you have a couple of choices:

Plugging in to a computer

  1. If you connect your device to a computer (usually via the charging cable into a USB slot) then most devices will allow the computer to now see and access the files on the device like any other folder on your computer.
    1. In some cases, you might need to allow USB debugging to give the computer access to your files
  2. Navigate to the folder called ‘TactusTherapy’ on your device
  3. Inside that folder you should find a folder for each app. You need to copy the correct backup from your computer in the correct folder for the app.
    1. Comprehension backups end in .ctbackup
    2. Naming backups end in .ntbackup
    3. Reading backups end in .rtbackup
    4. Writing backups end in .wtbackup

Using apps and your device

  1. You need to save the backup files from your preferred file sharing app into the correct location on your device. The method to do this will vary.
  2. The folder you should save to is called ‘TactusTherapy’
  3. Inside that folder you should find a folder for each app. This is where you need to save your files.
    1. Comprehension backups end in .ctbackup
    2. Naming backups end in .ntbackup
    3. Reading backups end in .rtbackup
    4. Writing backups end in .wtbackup

Now all the files should be in the right place on your device.

  1. Open Comprehension Therapy and touch any one of the activity buttons.
  2. On the Choose Your Categories screen, touch the “add/edit custom” button.
  3. Touch the “Backup and Restore Data” button.
  4. On the Backup/Restore Custom Data screen, find your backup file in the list on the right and touch it.
  5. You will be asked if you are want to restore and be warned that restoring the data will overwrite your current custom items. Press “OK.”
  6. Wait for the file to be restored.
  7. You will now have all your custom items restored to the app.
  8. Repeat steps 1-8 for Naming, Reading and Writing Therapy
