To Get Started:
Touch the USERS tab to slide out the list of users. The Guest user is provided for a quick start with the app. Select the user you want to use. Press “Add New User” to enter a new user profile. Type in the user’s name and select the settings you wish to use. Fill out the Personal Survey, set the passcode if desired, and customize the questions as needed. Scroll to the bottom of the screen and press “Done.”
Choose Yes/No Questions or Wh Questions on the Home Screen.
Choose the levels you wish to use and press the right arrow button to start.
To End a Session:
Press the Home button in the top left corner.
Choose to Continue with the session, Try Again with the same levels, Email Results, or press Done to return to the Home Screen. All results will be saved in the User Hub no matter which option you select.
You will hear and/or see a question. Press “Yes” or “No” to respond.
Level 1: Personal – Questions will come from the personal survey, system time/date, and basic assumptions about all users.
Level 2-4: Identification – The user is asked whether a picture is a given noun/verb/adjective e.g. “Is this a house?”.
Level 5: 2 Elements – Questions include two semantic elements, often asking about category membership or semantic properties e.g. “Do babies cry?”.
Level 6: 3 Elements – Questions include three semantic elements, often asking to compare two items on a given property e.g. “Are adults older than babies?”.
Level 7: 4 Elements – Questions include at least four semantic elements, often asking about the order of events e.g. “Do you put your shoes on before your socks?”.
You will hear and/or see a question. In the Receptive response mode, press one of the 2-4 answer choices displayed. In the Expressive response mode, press the scoring buttons (correct, cued/approximate, incorrect) based on the user’s response. Use the recording buttons in the lower left corner to record and play back audio. Sound files are saved with the item during the session, but are not saved once the session is over.
This app has so many settings to customize the experience for each user’s abilities! You can access many of the settings at any time during play by pressing the gear button on the screen. Some settings are only adjustable between sessions, such as customization, presentation order, and number of trials. Settings can be changed from the User Tab, the User Hub, or during play.
Enter the user’s name or identifier to be displayed on the play screen and in the User Hub. Select all settings appropriate for the user. Press the “?” next to any setting to get more information on what it controls within the app.
Be sure to fill out the personal survey for each user to make full use of the unique personalized questions! Pressing the Personal Survey button at the top of each User Screen to answer 2-6 pages of questions. Questions about a user’s family, age, hair color, and gender answered here are then incorporated into the app’s questions on the Personal level. Research shows that personal questions are the easiest ones to answer, so it’s a great way to start!
This information can be protected with a 4-digit passcode by touching the lock icon next to the Personal Survey button. The passcode can be changed or removed by touching the lock icon again. If the passcode has been forgotten, you have the option to erase the information in the personal survey, remove the passcode, and start again. For extra security, this data is not backed up via iTunes when the user profiles and data are backed up. It is recommended that you also use passcode or fingerprint security on your device and comply with all local patient privacy laws.
Touch the “Customize” button on the main User Screen for either Yes/No Questions or Wh Questions to select which questions should appear in the app or add your own questions. To add a question, press the “Add New Question” button on the Customize screen. Touch the Level text box to select the level of your question. Type in the question. For Yes/No, select the correct answer. For Wh, enter the correct answer and up to 3 incorrect answers. Adding a photo is optional, but can be added to any question.
Scores from each session are saved for all users in the User Hub. Data can be emailed per session or per activity with narrative summaries, data tables, and graphs.
To save your user profiles, scores, and custom questions as a back-up or to move from one device to another, plug your device into your computer, open iTunes, select your device, then Apps, and then scroll down to find the File Sharing section. Click on Answering and the backup files will be listed. Save the file(s) to your computer. To restore from a backup copy, click Add in the File Sharing section to replace the file(s) on the device with your backup copy.
