Read: Touch the picture that matches the word you see.

Listen&Read: Touch the word that matches the word you hear.

There is a “Hint” button available on all exercises that will reveal the written word, spoken word, or picture. If the “Hint” button is pressed before the correct answer is selected, the trial will be scored as incorrect but play will continue.

Customization: On the category selection screen, touch “Add/Edit Custom” to add your own words. Touch “Add New Category” to set up a folder. Name the category by touching the text box that says “Custom Category” and typing in a unique name (e.g. not one of the existing categories). Add items to the category by touching “Add New Item”. Each item in a category must have a unique name/label. Press the red record button labeled “Sound” to record yourself saying the name. Play and delete buttons will appear to allow you to listen to and re-record your sound. Add an image by either selecting a photo from the device’s camera roll or taking a photo (on camera-equipped devices). Press “done” to save the item. To edit the item, touch the word on the category list. To delete an item, press the red delete button next to the picture. To use your new custom words, select the radio button labeled “My Words” and select the categories you wish to target.

Backup and Restore Data: It is important to backup your custom items and categories regularly in case something happens to the device or app. Backing up your items is also useful if you wish to transfer custom categories between devices. Difficulty: Adjust the relatedness of foils from Easy to Hard. Easy will present words from different semantic categories. Medium will select at least one word from the same category and one beginning with the same sound if field-size permits. Hard selects as many pictures as possible from the same semantic category.

Field Size: “Auto” will adjust number of pictures on the screen at once based on performance or pick your preferred number.

Number Of Trials: Select the number of words randomly presented in a practice session. If the categories selected do not have as many words as you have selected, words will repeat as needed.

• If you have custom categories for several users, set My Words Foils to Limited to prevent other categories from appearing as foils. This will protect the privacy of your users when using personal or family photos in the app.
• When you use a hint, the item is marked as incorrect since the target task was not completed, but the app still lets the user complete it successfully to learn the correct answer and feel successful.
