How to Use Speech FlipBook for Home Practice

If you or a loved one is having difficulty producing speech sounds, Speech FlipBook can help. Words aren’t always spelled the way they sound, so by organizing works by sound instead of letter, people can practice better to make each sound clear. Use the app to practice saying sounds in each position of the word. Your speech therapist can help you figure out which settings and exercises are best for you, but if you are on your own, try this:

  • Turn on all the sounds in the app and flip by words.
  • Tap the word at the bottom to hear it pronounced, then say it yourself.
  • Record yourself and play it back, then judge if it was clear.
  • If one sound is hard, practice just saying that sound by touching it on the page.
  • Narrow down the words by picking only problem sounds on the tab once you have a feel for the exercise.

What People are Saying about Speech FlipBook

I don’t write app reviews because I don’t own an iPad, but occasionally I will come across an app that I know I’d be buying if I were still working. I am totally impressed with the Speech FlipBook by Tactus Therapy. When I first saw a few sample pictures of this a few weeks ago, I was so anxious for this to hit the market. I love everything about this app. …And perhaps the deciding factor is the price . Wow! What a product! Talk about bang for your buck… This one is definitely worth taking the time to investigate.
I would definitely recommend this app to anyone working with students who have apraxia, articulation/phonological delays, and reading deficits. This app goes straight to the top of my must-have speech apps!” on her blog, and on iTunes: “This app has really made a difference in such a short amount of time. Not only are my students enjoying this app, but they are making definite gains in therapy. One student who I have been seeing for apraxia made more progress in two sessions than he has in over a year. He was delighted, and so am I! This app is definitely one that I will use over and over again!
Speech FlipBook is a one of a kind app that provides the educator/therapist access to a phenomenal educational tool that allows the professional to use their own knowledge and expertise to plan appropriate activities to work on a specific skill. The uses for this app in the educational setting are endless. I absolutely LOVE this app. It is so versatile and can be beneficial to students that are in general or special education. Primary classrooms could use it for phonological awareness skills; Special Education teachers would have a quick customizable tool to address specific weaknesses in early literacy skills; Speech Therapists have a great tool for articulation and apraxia therapy. This is a must have in elementary schools.
